ActionAid UK — Who Pays?

Ninja fruit star in campaign to make supermarkets listen!

We were challenged to help ActionAid collect 5,000 signatures for it’s WhoPays? petition, which sought to force supermarkets into ensuring the workers who produce their food products are paid a fair wage.

Our insight was that when it comes to the likes of petitions, people often respond better to a little peer pressure. So, we created an interactive, personalisable animation – featuring comedians Bill Bailey and Katy Brand — which allowed users to personally ask their friends to support their cause.

People customised the animation by uploading a photo of their face choosing their costume of choice (banana, cashew, or pear), as well as choosing a style in which to fight two evil supermarket trollies!

They then shared their animation on Facebook, and via Email and could also embed the whole tool in their blog though which people could view and sign up.

The Outcome:

  • Unique movie viewings: Nearly 100,000
  • Movies created: Over 3000
  • Who Pays? sign-ups: Nearly 7,000
