The Children’s Society — Unplugged

Taking kids away from the telly — and into a world of fun

With the summer holidays approaching, The Children’s Society asked us for a way to help parents get their kids to do something more stimulating than spending every day in front of the telly. We came up with Unplugged — an online activity centre that kept kids and parents busy, all summer long.

A fully-responsive, content-rich hub of summer activities, Unplugged gave parents a wide range of original ideas for coaxing their kids off the couch.

From creating homemade bird-feeders and insect observatories to making the perfect den and even competing in the ‘Sillympics’, Unplugged has something to entertain every child.

The content, complete with downloadable activity packs, inspiring copy, and how-to photography was free for everyone. We delighted parents with six initial activities, then released a new one every week throughout the summer holidays.

This allowed us to capture data by encouraging parents to sign up for email updates to receive reminders every time a new activity was released. A secondary, softer call-to-action requested donations by text, but nothing got in the way of the content.
