We have recently turned 10 years old and following a successful year of winning a number of really interesting new clients, we are now looking for an experienced Account Director to lead our collection of exciting charity and not for profit clients.

The Role

This role requires a whip-smart, ambitious and commercially minded Account Director who has a real commitment, passion, and flair for delivering innovative work based on compelling audience insight. The successful candidate will be leading a very specific type of account and so they must have a proven track record of having worked on either NFP or Charity accounts. They will be inherently entrepreneurial in nature, with a proven track record of driving business growth through existing clients.

This role is for someone whom is inquisitive in nature and enjoys ‘ferreting’ out new opportunities and being an invaluable partner to their clients by demonstrating great thought-leadership and partnership.

They will thrive on close collaboration with planners and creatives ensuring that the work we produce is first class, delivers against our clients marketing objectives and ultimately helps drive their business forward.

Joining a growing Client Service department, the AD will play an active role in helping shape our overall client offer. This is a role for someone hungry and ambitious to do their best ever work and a step up to the next level.

At Nonsense, our Senior Account Directors and Account Directors lead our day-to-day Client relationships with support from the senior management team. First and foremost, they are responsible for the delivery of winning creative work which meets the client’s needs and addresses their business challenges. They oversee a client account (or set of accounts) within the agency, ensuring they are profitable and growing.

They manage their own team and collaborate closely with Planning, Creative and Production, and have an innate ability to inspire others inside and outside the agency. As well as managing their own clients they will be involved in pitches for new business, approaching these with both a creative and commercial mindset. Most importantly; you think; ’Client’ and not ‘Campaign’.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Relationships — Developing strong and fruitful relationships with key clients through strategic guidance and the delivery of outstanding, effective work.
  • Project Delivery — Overseeing the efficient delivery of projects that are on brief, time, and budget.
  • Client Development — Organic growth of projects delivering a pipeline of regular campaigns.
  • Finance — Leading forecasting and billing for key clients.
  • Line Management — Mentoring two ambitious and driven Account Managers, ensuring they are adding fantastic value to the agency and are given clear career development plans.
  • New Business — Assisting with business development and pitches as and when required.

Skills & Experience

  • Charity and/or NFP experience as an Account Director in an integrated agency (with a digital bent)
  • Exceptional account handling skills and an ability to think strategically
  • Strong creative brief writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Planning, Creative, and Production
  • Experience with measurement models and project evaluations
  • A keen eye for detail with excellent written English and numeracy skills
  • Experience of new business and pitches would be desirable
  • Proven track record in client development

Client Details

The successful candidate will be overseeing all of our Charity & NFP clients; including Cancer Research UK (encompassing Stand Up 2 Cancer), NSPCC (incorporating ChildLine), Diabetes UK, Rainbow Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital and the British Heart Foundation. Some of these clients provide a steady stream of briefs throughout the year, such as CRUK. With some of these clients we work with them on 1-2 briefs a year and so not all clients are in action at the same time. This therefore means the AD should be actively looking for work for their team to ensure they are fully utilised. This is not hard given how well connected Nonsense are with our clients.

In some instances we are the lead creative agency and are responsible for the development and delivery of the big idea across multiple channels and in some instances we are the digital agency working with a lead partner agency. In both instance, Nonsense is view as a trusted partner by our clients and an authority within the digital and social space. It is therefore vital that the successful candidate feels comfortable in terms of leading clients and advising them on the direction of their accounts versus simply delivering campaigns for them. It is a fantastic opportunity for the someone with that mindset.
